    PCD compresses that number because the interruptions that define it stop happening at the same frequency.

    What "Exceptionally Wear-Resistant" Actually

    Describes

    Polycrystalline diamond is not a modified carbide. It's not carbide with a secret ingredient. It's a different material category — a sintered layer of diamond particles fused into a continuous cutting medium at high pressure and temperature. The bond is metallurgical. The hardness is fundamental. The edge doesn't know it's supposed to degrade after three hours in aluminum.

    Non-Ferrous: The Whole Category

    It's tempting to define PCD's domain as "aluminum and plastic." That's accurate but incomplete. The full list includes:

    Aluminum alloys from pure 1100 to abrasive high-Si casting grades. Copper and every commercial brass and bronze. Magnesium. Zinc die-cast. Carbon fiber — woven, unidirectional, prepreg, dry fabric. Glass fiber in epoxy, polyester, and phenolic matrices.

    Graphite electrodes. PEEK, POM, PTFE, nylon, acrylic, polycarbonate. Metal matrix composites. Wood composites loaded with resin binders. If there's no iron in it, PCD cuts it.

    The one hard boundary: ferrous metals. Diamond and iron react chemically at cutting temperature. Outside that exclusion, the material range is essentially unlimited.

    Precision Over Volume

    A hole location specification of ±0.05 mm means nothing if the drill tip deflects 0.03 mm more on hole 800 than it did on hole one. Edge wear increases cutting force. Increased force increases deflection. Increased deflection violates the tolerance.

    PCD arrests that chain at its origin. No progressive edge dulling means no progressive force increase means no progressive deflection. Statistical process control data stays

    within limits without operator compensation. Customer source inspection passes first time.
