    Hardness has a unit: 8,000 HV. That's where polycrystalline diamond sits on the Vickers scale. Carbide maxes out around 2,000. The gap isn't academic — it's why one edge needs replacing by lunch and the other is still cutting next Tuesday.

    Diamond conducts heat. Carbide stores it. Every joule of friction energy generated at the tool tip has to go somewhere. In carbide, it pools at the cutting edge — softening, expanding, degrading. In PCD, it transfers into the chip stream and leaves the machine. Thermal management without plumbing.

    Aluminum sticks to almost everything. Except diamond. Built-up edge is a chemical bonding problem dressed as a machining problem. PCD's surface has no chemical pathway for

    aluminum adhesion. The chip shears, separates, and exits. No false edge. No tearing. No periodic offset adjustment to chase a moving target.
